Roof Repair vs. Total Replacement
You may be able to re-roof your home in order to save time and money. This is when a new shingle overlay is placed over the existing underlayment. It can help restore the look of your roof and add protection. Re-roofing only works if you have one layer of shingles installed. Many building codes prevent builders from adding a third layer of shingles to a roof, so if you have already re-roofed once before you will not be able to go through with the process again.
How Long Does it Take to Replace a Roof?
On average, it only takes 1-3 days to replace a roof. However, this time frame can change based on a number of factors including:
- Size of roof
- Pitch of roof
- Weather
- Number of layers on roof
- Type of roofing material used
We will provide you with an estimated time of completion based on our experience installing roofs throughout the Cincinnati area.
How Do I Know if My Roof Needs to be Replaced?
The best way to determine if your roof is in need of repairs or replacement is to do a visual inspection. You can hire a professional to conduct an inspection or keep an eye out for certain items if inspecting yourself. There are different signs to look out for based on the type of roofing material you have, but some basic signs are:
- Granule Loss
- Blistering
- Curling Shingles
- Buckling
- Rotting Shingles
- Algae Growth
- Bald Spots
- Water Damage
- Leaking
Asphalt Shingles
Asphalt shingles are the most common type of roofing material on the market due to their pricing and availability. Almost all new asphalt roofs come with an architectural design that simulates a wood shake appearance. These dimensional shingles come in many different colors and patterns ranging from monochromatic to multiple variations.
Wood Shakes or Shingles
These types of shingles are more costly and attractive with their physical appearance. However, they can be harder to come by and are not considered good options in areas prone to fire.
Metal Roofing
Metal roofs are typically made out of steel or aluminum and have grown increasingly popular over the years. Metal roofs are fireproof and can be a lot more durable in terms of withstanding the elements. They are more expensive and require speciality installation. There are multiple metal roofing systems that can be installed, including raised-seam panels and products mimicking composite shingles.
Composite Slate
For those looking to have a greener roof, composite slate tiles are synthetic and made out of recycled materials. They resemble traditional slate roofs and are much lighter. These can be a more expensive roofing material and harder to replace in case of damage.
Clay or Ceramic Tile
These types of roofs are common with older homes in warmer climates. However, the red tile roof style is being replaced with other metal and composite materials in many modern homes.
