Consumer Solutions represents all three major wood/composite window companies: Marvin, Pella and Andersen. We also sell some lesser known, but good quality brands like Lincoln and Semco. It is important to offer a variety of options with wood windows because every application is different. Each manufacturer has unique strengths for every situation. Our experience has showed us that being adaptive is crucial. The majority of the window companies in the Greater Cincinnati area are stuck with one brand of window (Champion, Gilkey, Pella, etc.). As a result, they attempt to force their product into your distinctive situation.
Here are some of our major areas of concern when replacing wood windows:
What is the extent of water damage to the exterior of the window?
This particular project in Indian Hill needed us to tear out every window and the siding around it. There was also mold that needed removed. The Andersen #400 series window was the best application for this project.
Should you go back with wood, composite or vinyl?
We were able to install the Marvin insert wood window into this home to greatly increase the energy efficiency and functionality. With this application, we did not have to remove the beautiful interior trim.
Typically a wood or composite window application will run 75% more than vinyl replacement windows. We were able to install these color coated vinyl windows for half the cost of wood in Anderson Township. With these new vinyl windows, you cannot tell the difference between wood and vinyl from the outside. The secret is to use a full screen and a different color than white or tan on the outside.
Since you’re getting new windows, is this a good opportunity to change the look or functionality of the windows?
Age of the Home
These windows are Pella’s Architect series. All the windows in this house were casements and required an upgrade to match the existing ones. The Architect series offers a unique look that is very easy to operate.
One of Construction Solutions favorites is the Alliance Window System by Midway. Compared to wood windows, the differences in vinyl windows do not vary quite as much. It’s critical to use a high quality manufacturer that offers all the latest features that are available in vinyl.
These features include:
Great Thermal Efficiency
All of Midway’s windows exceed the requirements to achieve the $1,500.00 tax deduction with regular low e/argon glass.
Midway has 29 different color combinations.
Midway uses a European white extrusion with a beveled frame that looks like a wood window.
All of the Midway windows offer double strength glass which is 50% thicker than most glass. This reduces noise and increases durability
Midway is a second generation owned family business. They have been in business since 1963. The Owner, Art Straus, is an engineer with “off the chart” standards on excellence.
